HAZWOPER TRAINING

HAZWOPER is an acronym for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. It refers to five types of hazardous waste operations conducted in the United States under OSHA Standard 1910.120 "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response." The standard contains the safety requirements employers must meet in order to conduct these five types of operations.

OSHA recognizes several levels of training, based on the work the employee will be performing and the level of hazard they will be facing. Each level requires a different training program, and OSHA specifies topics and minimum training times. Refresher training is included as a requirement for several levels.

There is no charge for this training. Key Technology has generously agreed to provide John Fraley to our LEPC for this training.

John Fraley will be conducting an 8 hour class which will qualify as an 8 hour refresher.

DATE/TIME: August 17, 2010, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LOCATION:  Walla Walla County Fire District #4, 2251 S. Howard, Walla Walla

AGENDA:

  • John will give a good overview during the first half;
  • then take two areas of HAZWOPER and concentrate on them;
  • during the last hour we will break up in groups and work on an accident scenario.

Additional information about HAZWOPER, including the five types of hazardous waste operations and the training program levels, can be found at the:OSHA website.

Please contact Liz Jessee at Walla Walla County Emergency Management if you are interested in attending, either by email or by telephone at 509.524.2902.
