• Vaccine availability is still limited and will remain that way through January 2010. We are currently scheduled to receive approximately 20,000 doses of vaccine by January which is far less than the number of individuals in the priority groups.

• The Health Department is not withholding supplies of vaccine, rather our current allocations are being sent to clinics and hospitals.

• Individuals seeking vaccination should check with their doctors. While the supply is currently very limited any doctor or clinic that desires vaccine will eventually be able to receive a supply of vaccine to cover their high-risk patients and those who meet the national priority for receiving vaccine.

• As Walla Walla County Health Department learns the allocations for a given week the vaccine is ordered and distributed to hospitals and clinics for use in priority patients. Those are:

  1. Pregnant women
  2. Family members and caregivers of children less than 6 months of age
  3. Healthcare workers
  4. Individuals between 6 months and 24 years of age
  5. Individuals between 25 and 65 with pre-existing medical conditions that make them at high risk of complications from influenza

• By mid-November vaccine will be available in local pharmacies in limited amounts.

       Pharmacies will normally not administer

vaccine to children less than 9 years of age.

• As more vaccine becomes available the Health Department will provide immunizations in schools and at the Health Department.

• 2nd Vaccines for Children. At this time there still is not an adequate supply of vaccine. Parents seeking a second vaccine for their children should look for scheduled clinics AT LEAST 28 days following their child's 2009 A(H1N1) immunization.

We will post availability of vaccine at the Health Department on our Twitter site (www.twitter.com/wwchd) or web site (http://www.co.walla-walla.wa.us/departments/

phd/index.shtml) and on the introduction to our telephone system at 509.524.2650.
