Tobacco Control and Prevention
Youth Tobacco Prevention
It is illegal to provide or sell tobacco to any person under the age of 18. The state Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works with local prevention programs, the Liquor Control Board, local law enforcement agencies, and other partners statewide to ensure that the law is enforced. The program and its partners work to prevent youth from gaining access to tobacco products by educating retailers and the public about tobacco sales and possession laws; encouraging innovative policing strategies; and conducting random, undercover checks of tobacco retailers to discourage sales to minors.
