2008 Enterprise GIS Deployment
The continuing implementation of the Enterprise GIS is on schedule to provide basic GIS services to all departments of Walla Walla County beginning in January 2008. The Enterprise GIS is an integrated, multi-departmental system of components used to collect, organize, analyze, visualize, and disseminate geographic information in a distributed network architecture. The goal of the Enterprise GIS is to implement interoperable technologies, standards, and methods so that GIS data and services can support core business needs more efficiently and more effectively.
The objectives of Walla Walla County 's Enterprise GIS implementation will be to:

- Asset & Resource management
- Communications
Increase.
- Customer Satisfaction
- Currency and accuracy of data
- Efficiencies in workflow
- Eligibility for grant funding through better record keeping
- Capture of lost revenue
Reduce.
Participating elected offices, departments and agencies within the county will include:
- Assessor Sheriff
- Treasurer Auditor
- Commissioners Community Development
- Watershed Public Works
- E911 Emergency Management
- Weed Control Public Health
Distributed costs for GIS services in 2007 will include $76,800 for Operations & Maintenance and $153,200 for Project work totaling $230,000.
Efficiencies generated by the project work identified in the GIS Business Plan will be approximately $400,000. These will be attained by:
- Reducing redundant data entry
- Better asset management
- Preservation of knowledge
- Integrating access to GIS data into the daily work flow
- Better public service
- Improved communications with local, state and federal agencies as well as internally between departments and elected offices
