Mill Creek Flood Control Project
Notice is hereby posted to inform the public of the upcoming rehabilitation to the Mill Creek levee system. This rehabilitation is to restore damages sustained during the February 2020 flood events.
Notice
- Walla Walla County, operating as the Mill Creek Flood Control Zone District (MCFCZD) requested inspection and rehabilitation assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps of Engineers), as authorized under Public Law 84-99
- This effort is a partnership between the MCFCZD and the Corps of Engineers
- The Corps of Engineers has contracted with a private contractor to perform the rehabilitation construction work
- The Contractor will mobilize to the sites starting around 30 November 2020
- Construction is anticipated to run from 30 November 2020 through 31 January 2021
- The majority of the repairs are located on the levee or revetment faces, above anticipated water levels. Some repairs will involve placing rip rap at the toe of the levee/revetment and may occur in locations where water is present
- The walking/biking path along the levees may experience disruptions but closure will be limited to areas of active repairs. No extended closures of the path are anticipated, and the contractor will provide barricades and signage to limit access as needed, to ensure the safety of the public
- There are over 80 discrete damage locations on the levees, both upstream and downstream of the concrete channel
