CD AND TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS
Transcriptionists
Superior Court proceedings are entirely electronically recorded. Dept. I recordings are maintained by the Superior Court Administrator/Judicial Assistant Dept I - Kelly Skramstad. Dept. II recordings are maintained by the Superior Court Administrator/Judicial Assistant Dept. II – Rachel Taylor. If a transcript of an electronically recorded proceeding is required from Superior Court, the first step is to request a CD of the recording from the appropriate administrator. The requestor is responsible for the payment of $25.00 for each CD required.
Once the CD is purchased, the requestor must hire a transcriber. Under GR 35 official court transcripts must be completed and filed only by:
(1) a Certified Court Reporter (meets the required standards under RCW 18.145.080); -or-
(2) an Authorized Transcriptionist (individual who has been approved by Superior Court to prepare Court Official verbatim reports from electronically recorded proceedings).
Minimum qualifications to become an authorized transcriptionist is to complete and file an official certified court transcript from electronically proceedings is certification as a court reporter or certification by AAERT (American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers) or proof of one- year supervised mentorship with a certified court reporter or an authorized transcriptionist. This is at the discretion of the Court.
A list of authorized transcriptionists, approved by the Court, can be found by clicking HERE.
The responsibility falls upon the requestor to contact a transcriber and make payment arrangements. It’s NOT the Court’s responsibility to make these arrangements to contact a transcriber on your behalf.
GR 35 is applicable only to the preparation of transcripts of court proceedings. **Transcriptions of interviews, statements or other out-of-court proceedings does not apply**
